On the 9th February 2019, I had an opportunity to attend a half day Global Goals for Local Change Workshop focusing on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at Carmelite Community Center, Dublin 2 organised by Development Perspectives and Irish Environmental Network.
It is amazing to realise that there are so many challenges facing the community and yet often the society tend to focus on maybe one or two. The question is, What are SDGs all about? These are an outline vision of the future for people and the planet, they are a new set of 17 global goals and targets adopted by 193 UN member states. The emphasis on these goals is to encourage people especially young people to take a lead in their communities by coming up with new ideas that will make a positive change for the betterment of people and the planet itself.
I learnt a lot out of this workshop more so that from the beginning I never even heard of these goals. I gained a lot of knowledge and realised that even myself I can contribute to the achievement of these goals by becoming an active citizen and participating in some of the projects to create positive change. I learnt that change could start with anyone, anywhere and others could follow to achieve same.
To learn more about SDGs, please take the challenge and be the change.
